Master in Climatology

The specificity of the "Master in Geography, orientation Climatology" organized by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Liège has been further improved for the 2011-2012 academic year. Its cursus is particularly adapted to the need of climate research centres and institutions dealing with climatic hazards.

It is organized in symbiosis with various departments of the University and specifically with the Department of Astrophysics, Geophysics and Oceanography. The importance of the course about greenhouse gas emissions and the fight against climate change has increased. This course will always be entrusted to a specialist in atmospheric chemistry.

An introductory course in physical oceanography is introduced. This course is indispensable to understand the different climates of the planet (2/3 covered by oceans), and it will be provided by a specialised teacher.

A satellite remote sensing course applied to climatology is entrusted to a specialist from the Royal Institute of Meteorology.

Two elective modules instead of three (for 13 credits) will be offered as an option in the 2nd Master:

  • a module of environmental and applied climatology (specificity of the University of Liège)
  • and a climate modelling module (specialization in regional climatology and polar regions and modelling of biogeochemical cycles).

In addition, all Bachelors students of the Faculty of Science have access to the Master without any gateway.
